Make-A-Wish Fundraiser Update
Miss Rozak's 6th grade English classes, with the help of their families and friends, contributed over $1,100 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation Fundraiser. I am very proud of everyone who contributed, as it was a very honorable and unselifsh act. Congratulations to all of the classes who reached their goal: periods 2,4,5,8, and 9. Period 9 doubled their goal and raised the most money out of all of the class periods. Thank you again to everyone who participated.
Frozen Fire Think-Tac-Toe Project
Just a reminder that the "Think-Tac-Toe" project, which provides differentiated instruction and student-choice activities, is due on Friday, May 28th, 2010. You have the choice to complete the "Think-Tac-Toe" assignment or take the final test on Frozen Fire. If the assignment is turned in early, by May 21st, you can earn up to 5 bonus points. Do not forget that you only pick two of the activities, and each is worth 25 points. You may complete a 3rd activity for up to ten bonus points.

Make-A-Wish Fundraiser
Miss Rozak's 6th Grade English classes are on a mission to help others by helping the student council achieve their goal for the Make-A-Wish Fundraiser. The class periods are currently competing against each other to see who can raise the most money. I am very proud of the students for their efforts and genorosity! Remember, donations of any size are appreciated, and all donations contribute to making a wish come true!

Frozen Fire
Miss Rozak's 6th Grade English students are currently reading the novel Frozen Fire. Students will complete vocabulary and comprehension questions for each chapter, as well as activities that require the use of active reading strategies. All of these materials will serve as very useful study guides for upcoming quizzes and tests. Links to online vocabulary games will be posted at the conclusion of Chapter 3.

St. Patrick's Day Spirit
As requested by the school spirit team, 6th grade students exemplified St. Patrick's Day spirit with their display of green clothing. If you look close enough, you may even see a leprechaun....

WebQuest Enrichment Activity
I would like to thank the students who completed the WebQuest Enrichment Opportunity. The travel brochures look wonderful, and they are posted on a bulletin board in the classroom. My students have enjoyed reading these brochures and learning about many different locations and historical landmarks. The bulletin board has become an R&R favorite. Pictures are posted below:

State Research Report Presentation
Students have worked very diligently over the past month researching, taking notes, making outlines, and revising and editing the rough drafts of their research papers. Students should have the final copies completed by the end of the week. We will begin the 3-5 minute presentations as early as Wednesday March 10th. The poster board required for the presentation is also due on this date. Documents with instructions are embedded into this post, and a printable version can be accessed by clicking the attached links. These assignments are also posted on Edline and my teacher website.

Contest Winner
I would like to congratulate Nathan for winning the Figurative Language Advertisement Contest. Teachers from all grade levels in the middle school judged the advertisements and voted Nathan's product design and advertisement as the overall winner. Great work Nathan!
English Projects - Video
This video is a photographic story of some of the projects my classes have completed so far this year. Projects in this video include developing advertisements using figurative language, creating shape poems, and completing and presenting biography and historical fiction book reports. Enjoy!

Enrichment Activity - Pittsburgh Pride
2010 Pittsburgh Pirates Jackie Robinson Essay and Poetry Contest
This is an opportunity for students to express their thoughts creatively during Black History Month and possibly win tickets to a Pirates game, participate in an on-field ceremony, receive an autographed baseball, and so much more. Every student that submits an essay or poem will receive a free pirates ticket!
Submissions are judged by grade level and prize details follow:
First place Winners will receive four (4) complimentary tickets to the April 16th game, and participate in a special pregame, on-field ceremony. He/she will also receive a complimentary tour of Highmark's Legacy Square at PNC Park, complimentary ARAMARK food vouchers, a baseball autographed by a member of the current Pirates' team and a copy of Jackie Robinson's daughter's book Safe at Home.
Second place Winners will receive two (2) complimentary tickets to the April 16th game,a complimentary tour of Highmark's Legacy Square at PNC Park, complimentary ARAMARK food vouchers, and a baseball autographed by a member of the current Pirates' team.
Third place Winners will receive two (2) complimentary tickets to the April 16th game. He/she will also receive a complimentary tour of Highmark's Legacy Square at PNC Park and complimentary ARAMARK food vouchers.

6th Grade Research
All 6th grade English students are currently working on a research project. The students on Team 1 have each been assigned a specific state to research. Students will complete the entire research process which includes note-taking, writing an outline, writing a rough draft, peer-editing, revising, writing a final copy, and compiling a bibliography. To complete this task, students will be using a variety of sources including books, encyclopedias, and the internet. Upon completion of the research papers, students will make note cards and give an oral presentation of their research using visual aids.
